ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A woman described as one of the best teachers at her southern Utah school will spend 15 weekends in jail for having sex with a student.
Cris Morris was charged with rape but agreed to plead guilty in March to unlawful sexual conduct with a teen boy.
The 30-year-old was a teacher and track coach at Hurricane High School. There was a recommendation for six months in jail, but the judge Thursday settled for 30 days served on weekends.
Judge Rand Beacham says many Hurricane students considered Morris to be among the best teachers. He says he wishes she had put the needs of her family before her "selfish desires." Morris has three children.
