Paul Nelson ReportingMany parents paid so their child could dance here at Rice Eccles Stadium for Freedom Blast. Tracey Hansen says she gave $60, but she'll only get $40 back.
"I don't think this is right. When I talked to the director of our dance studio, she said there are 492 students that were scheduled to perform. If you calculate that, that's $9800," Hansen says.
Hansen says her daughter was never told the show could be cancelled when she paid the money. Freedom Blast publicists say the funds go to pay other contractors, like costume designers. Publicist Linda Walton says those funds don't actually go through them.
"The Freedom Blast actually never touches that money. That's all handled through the dance studios," Walton says.
Parents like Hansen say they will try to enroll their children in other festivals next year. But publicists say Freedom Blast producers are now bankrupt, and they will never try another festival again.
