PROVO — A man was transported to the hospital Monday afternoon after sustaining an injury from a single gunshot wound.

The person police believe to be the shooter is in custody, according to the Provo Police Department.

Police responded to the area near 700 West 300 South just before 3:00 p.m. after neighbors who heard the gunshot called, according to Lt. Brandon Post with the Provo Police Department.

The gunshot wound is in the man's head or face area, Post said. His condition is unknown.

The man did not live in the area but was visiting a friend at the time he was shot.

A nearby school was briefly put on lockdown until police officers determined the area was safe, Post said.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
