LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say they made few arrests during major New Year's Eve street celebrations in Nevada. Las Vegas police reported 22 arrests during a night that saw hundreds of thousands of celebrants flood the Strip and downtown. Las Vegas police say there were at least nine driving under the influence arrests around the valley but provided no breakdown for other arrests.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada hunters killed 18 black bears in 2014, the most in the hunt's four-year history. The Nevada Department of Wildlife says 12 of the bruins were killed in the Pinenut Mountains near Carson City. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports dogs were used in all but four successful hunts in 2014.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol says a man was struck and killed by a vehicle while running across a Sparks street outside a crosswalk. Troopers say the driver, 29-year-old Tiffany Hendrix of Fallon, stopped, called 911 and cooperated fully with the investigation. Troopers do not suspect she was impaired at the time.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Fire officials say one person died in a Reno-area home fire early yesterday morning but another occupant managed to safely escape. Truckee Meadows firefighters tried to enter the residence near Geiger Grade in Washoe County, but the intense fire prevented them from reaching the trapped individual. The victim's name was not immediately released.
