SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol troopers stopped nearly 200 cars and arrested more than 20 people on New Year's Eve.
Authorities put extra troopers on the roads to patrol for drunk drivers during New Year's celebrations Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Trooper Lawrence Hopper says 183 vehicles were stopped and 22 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in four northern Utah counties.
Hopper says the roads were fairly safe overnight and few crashes were reported.
Holiday enforcement will continue through Sunday.
