PAGE, Ariz. (AP) — A natural sandstone arch near the Arizona-Utah border that draws 90,000 visitors a year will be closed temporarily for trail repairs.
Heavy rains last year washed out a trail that leads to Rainbow Bridge National Monument from Lake Powell. Temporary fixes have kept the monument open, but officials say the trail needs to be built up and reinforced.
It's scheduled to close from Jan. 5 to Feb. 15.
Most people visit the monument by boat across Lake Powell. Others hike up to 18 miles from Navajo Mountain.
Hikers will be able to access the viewing area but not the remaining trail leading to Lake Powell.
The monument is located in far southern Utah in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, which stretches into northern Arizona.
