LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada congressman says he's offended by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell's claim that some western lawmakers are playing politics with the sage grouse. Republican Mark Amodei says the Obama administration is to blame for the conflict over the chicken-sized bird. He says Jewell and others should be doing more to try to keep it off the list of endangered species.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Sparks police are looking for a carjacker who robbed a woman as she pulled into a drive-thru bank. Police say the robber jumped into the passenger side of the woman's car last night at a Heritage Bank branch and ordered her out. Police are still looking for the car, a black 2001 four-door Audi.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office says a 31-year-old inmate found dead at the county jail in August died from natural causes. The autopsy concludes Kerry Roop of Reno was suffering from a heart condition caused by high blood pressure. KRNV-TV reports Roop turned herself in on a contempt of court violation at the Washoe County Jail on August 22.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A landscaper was trapped by cut palm tree fronds high above the ground yesterday was pronounced dead when firefighters reached him. Fire Capt. Cedric Williams says a high-angle team removed the man's body from the 25- to 30-foot tree in a residential area southeast of downtown North Las Vegas.
