FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Some hospitals are taking steps to control the spread of the flu virus in North Carolina.
The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1yXXuxv ) that Cape Fear Valley Health System on Wednesday will implement visitor restrictions at hospitals and other treatment centers to minimize spread of the flu and flu-like illness.
Children under 12 won't be allowed to visit, and emergency department patients will be limited to one visitor.
Hospital officials also say anyone with flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, shouldn't visit patients at the hospital. Instead, officials say these people should stay home and call their doctors.
So far this flu season, state health officials say four people in North Carolina have died as a result of the flu.
