SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Emma Lou Warner Thayne, a prominent Mormon writer and poet, has died at the age of 90.
Family members say she died of congestive heart failure Saturday at her Salt Lake City house.
Thayne wrote hundreds of poems, 14 books and one of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' most memorable hymns, "Where Can I Turn for Peace?"
Among other things, she also was a peace activist, champion of women's rights and former Deseret News board member.
Church President Thomas Monson, in a statement, called his friend a "multi-talented and caring individual whose outstanding contributions" in literature, education and other endeavors "have done much to enlighten and to inspire."
Survivors include her husband, Melvin, and five daughters.
Funeral services will begin at noon Friday at the Foothill LDS Stake Center.
