WEST JORDAN — The winter holiday season is usually the busiest time of year for food pantries across the country, but one item that is always in high demand is rarely donated — milk.
The Great American Milk Drive is looking to change that by donating 2 million gallons of milk to food banks across the country. In Utah, ‘Santa's Milk Drive’ events are taking place to remind people to donate.
“It's an effort of the entire dairy industry — so dairy farmers, dairy companies, grocery stores — and the idea is that we're all working together to make sure that all families who need milk are getting milk,” said Kristy Spence, with the Dairy Council of Utah.
On Saturday, customers at the new Smith’s Marketplace in West Jordan, 7800 S 5600 West, were able to donate milk at a booth set up outside the store. Volunteers who collected the milk took it to the Utah Food Bank Saturday evening.
If you want to donate and weren't able to go to the event, visit www.santasmilkdrive.com to find out where you can donate in your community.
