LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- Ten people have been arrested and booked into jail for allegedly operating an illegal drug-ring that used photocopied prescriptions to obtain the painkiller oxycodone.

Layton police say the group copied prescriptions from a doctor who failed to use tamper-resistant paper to write prescriptions for legitimate patients.

Alleged ringleader Jeremy Lee Valdes has been charged in 2nd District Court with a first-degree felony for carrying on a criminal enterprise. He made an appearance in court yesterday.

Nine others face third-degree felonies for prescription forgery and alteration.

Police say the group apparently wanted the drugs for personal use, not for sale to others.
