COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Cottonwood Heights police will be at Brighton High School Monday following an undisclosed threat.

Police said Sunday night that they couldn't comment on the ongoing investigation, but did confirm they would have a presence at the school on Monday.

Phone messages and an email from Brighton principal Charisse Hilton were sent to parents and students over the weekend. In it, Hilton said that "threats" were made against the school using social media.

"Please rest assured that we have not found any weapons, facsimiles of weapons or other artifacts at the school, which has been closely guarded throughout the weekend," Hilton stated. "We also asked the police for additional security at the school when classes resume on Monday.

"Brighton High and Canyons District administrators and Cottonwood Heights police officers will be in the hallways and around the school in the coming days. The campus will be well protected," the message stated.

The threats were discussed by some on Twitter Sunday night. Some students saying they were told to expect "lots of cops" walking around school Monday.

The school also asked students to keep their eyes and ears open, and if they had any information regarding the alleged threats to call the school at 801-826-5800 Monday morning, or Cottonwood Heights Police at 801-840-4000.

The nature of the threat was not disclosed Sunday.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
