BEIJING (AP) — President Barack Obama is opening his three-country tour of the Asia-Pacific region in China where he arrived on Monday. He'll be giving a speech about U.S.-Asia ties at a high-level Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing. Before his visit ends on Wednesday, Obama will meet with China's president. Obama's next stop is Myanmar.
BEIJING (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng) and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (shin-zoh ah-bay) are holding an ice-breaking meeting on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific conference in Beijing. It follows more than two years of deep tensions over control of some uninhabited East China Sea islands. Xi and Abe met Monday at the capital's Great Hall of the People.
HONG KONG (AP) — Regulators have given the green light to a trading link allowing investors in Shanghai and Hong Kong to buy and sell shares on both exchanges. The approval on Monday for the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect link will give foreign investors greater access to China's stock market. Officials say trading via the link will begin on Nov. 17.
FREEPORT, Grand Bahama (AP) — The Bahamian government says a full investigation into the crash of an executive jet on Grand Bahama Island will begin at daylight. Officials say the plane crashed on approach to the main airport in Freeport on Sunday. All 9 people on board were killed. The crash occurred as people were gathering on Grand Bahama for the 2014 Global Leadership Forum.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — Motorists are saying it's about time. A national survey of gas prices finds the average cost of regular has dropped 13 cents per gallon in the last two weeks and 78 cents since its peak in May. It's now $2.94. Analyst Trilby Lundberg says the drop is being driven by a decrease in the price of oil. But she forecasts it will end soon unless oil prices drop further.
