OGDEN — Construction crews hit a 2-inch natural gas line Tuesday morning, sending gas spewing into the air and forcing the evacuation of an Ogden neighborhood.
The crew was digging on the 1100 block of 24th Street when it punctured the line just after 9 a.m. Firefighters evacuated homes on two blocks in the area. The Fellowship Manor — a senior living center — was told to shelter in place.
Eventually Questar crews were able to turn off the gas and were working to repair the line. No one was injured.
Firefighters monitored the air and residents were allowed back in their homes around 10:30 a.m., according to Eric Bauman of the Ogden Fire Department.
