PRICE — A woman was critically injured Saturday when the Chevy Cavalier she was driving crossed the center line and collided with a Jeep in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 6.
The accident happened just after 5 p.m., about a mile east of Soldier Summit. According to a written statement from the Utah Highway Patrol, Hailey Evans, 20, of Price, tried to make a last-minute pass in front of a semitruck before the passing lane ended. Witnesses told police she was traveling too fast and lost control when she tried to move back in front of the truck.
Her car crashed into an oncoming Jeep and Evans, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was thrown from her vehicle, the UHP statement said. She was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo in critical condition.
The family of five inside the Jeep — a father, mother, two infants and a grandmother — were taken to Castleview Hosptial in Price, troopers said. All five were treated and released Saturday evening.
Driver impairment does not seem to be a factor in the crash, the UHP statement said. Citations are pending the results of the investigation.
