From JetBlue to Southwest to Northwest, airlines are adding minutes to flights to save on stratospheric fuel costs.

"I'd rather fly slowly rather than not at all," one passenger said. "But I'm not very keen on extending the schedule. How much slower? "

Southwest says it can save $42 million a year by making each flight up to three minutes longer. Northwest sees more than $500,000 in savings a year by adding just four minutes to each flight in and out of Hawaii.
