BOSTON (AP) — Mamitu Daska broke the women's record in the Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon on Sunday and fellow Ethiopian runner Lelisa Desisa successfully defended his men's title.
Daska finished in 1 hour, 8 minutes, 20 seconds. Desisa, the Boston Marathon winner last year, won in 1:01:38.
The B.A.A. Half Marathon is the third and final event of the B.A.A. Distance Medley, a three-race series that opened with the B.A.A. 5K on April 19 and B.A.A. 10K on June 22.
The 30-year-old Daska earned $40,000. She pledged to donate $5,000 to The One Fund Boston in honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
