LANDER, Wyo. (AP) — The investigation into the mauling death of a Utah man in northwest Wyoming has found evidence of at least three grizzly bears and one black bear at the scene.
But the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says its analysis of the scene still is not able to determine whether 31-year-old Adam Stewart was attacked by a grizzly or black bear.
Stewart of Virgin, Utah, was killed on Sept. 4 in Bridger-Teton National Forest while conducting research.
An autopsy found he died of blunt force trauma during an encounter with a bear.
The Game and Fish Department says a review board will be convened to evaluate the incident and determine the ultimate cause of the encounter.
