LAS VEGAS (AP) — North Las Vegas police have launched an animal cruelty investigation at a home where firefighters say at least 41 dogs were killed and 52 survived a weekend fire. North Las Vegas City Councilman Isaac Barron (IHT'-sok bar-OHN') owns the house, but a city spokesman says it was being rented by tenants who Barron says he was trying to evict.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal agents raided a southeast Las Vegas home owned by a hip hop figure in what authorities are calling an ongoing investigation. No arrests were made. An FBI spokeswoman said the agency served a search warrant about 6 a.m. Records show the property is owned by music figure Rashid "Mally Mall" Jamal.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Marshals office in Reno is warning about a scam targeting northern Nevadans with fictitious telephone calls about jury duty. Authorities say they've received several reports of individuals identifying themselves as U.S. Marshals who claim they will arrest the potential victim if they refuse to pay a fine for missing their jury duty. Marshals say they never seek payment of fines or fees over the telephone.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — An education major at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is set to receive a $4,500 memorial scholarship named after the late Gov. Kenny Guinn. State Treasurer Kate Marshall and UNLV President Don Snyder are expected to announce the winner at an on-campus ceremony this afternoon.
