BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Bonneville Power Administration will pay Idaho about $40 million over 10 years to protect wildlife habitat in southern Idaho. About $22 million will be used for restoration, acquisition and stewardship of at least 13.5 square miles of land. Another $4 million will be used to administer the program over 10 years. The remaining $14 million will be put in the state endowment fund to pay for management of an additional 13.6 square miles already protected in the mitigation program.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man who carried a concealed gun without a permit onto the North Idaho College campus has been sentenced to nine days in jail and two years of supervised parole. Police arrested 38-year-old Michael Dan of Rathdrum in February after receiving a report that Dan would come to class with a gun. Police say they also found drug paraphernalia.

MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in southwest Idaho have identified the Meridian couple killed in a murder-suicide. The Ada County Coroner's Office says 24-year-old Kevin Smith shot his wife, 32-year-old Kimberly Smith, on Saturday before turning the gun on himself a minute later. Police say they discovered the bodies in the garage.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise SWAT team has apprehended a fugitive browsing at a yard sale in southwest Idaho. Police arrested 39-year-old Troy Wheeler of Meridian on Monday on a parole violation. A spokeswoman says a SWAT team made the arrest because Wheeler is known to be heavily armed.
