LAS VEGAS (AP) — The suicide of a 40-year-old man who was freed from jail after being accused of crashing his vehicle into the Stratosphere casino raised questions about why he wasn't charged with a crime and whether he was properly screened for mental illness. The body of Ryan Brown was found Tuesday, a day after he was freed when prosecutors declined to file criminal charges.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A North Las Vegas high school junior will be prosecuted as an adult in the shooting death of a woman in what police say was a dispute over $5 in a marijuana buy. An arrest report says the 16-year-old is accused of shooting 20-year-old Andrea Lafon in the head. A witness told police that Lafon refused to let the teen pay $35 for $40 worth of marijuana.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A new report from Nevada officials shows initial claims for unemployment insurance are in line with what they've been over a 20-year average. Officials say about 13,000 claims were filed in August. That's down 15 percent from claims in July.
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Police in Henderson are asking for the public's help to identify a man who wore a black fedora hat and sunglasses while brandishing a handgun during a midnight robbery at a neighborhood casino. No one was injured, but police say the man made threats and waved the gun at an employee before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
