PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A magician from Rhode Island is competing in the finals of "America's Got Talent."
Mat Franco, of Johnston, is scheduled to perform Tuesday as one of six finalists on the popular NBC talent show.
Franco has entertained students with his magic tricks at college campuses nationwide since graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 2010.
URI students are hosting a viewing party in the Hope Commons facility on the South Kingston campus to cheer for Franco. He has performed at many orientation sessions for new students.
The finalists on the show's ninth season are competing for $1 million and a headline show in Las Vegas.
URI assistant dean Linda Lyons says Franco is a wonderful representative of the school and a great role model.
