EL CAMPO, Texas (AP) — A school official says five students at a middle school southwest of Houston were airlifted to a hospital when they became ill after ingesting an unknown substance.

El Campo Superintendent Mark Pool says the students ingested the substance Wednesday prior to the start of classes at El Campo Middle School, about 70 miles from Houston. He says two students are suspected of bringing the pills to school and at least one of them is among the five treated at a Houston hospital.

The three boys and two girls had elevated heart rates and were transported by air ambulance as a precautionary measure.

Pool says it's not clear whether the pills were prescription or some other drugs. He says authorities were searching the homes of the two suspected students.
