RANDOLPH, Vt. (AP) — The food service company Sodexo is pledging to buy more locally produced Vermont food for the colleges and schools it serves in the state.

The company now provides 34,000 meals a day at the University of Vermont, Champlain College, St. Michael's College, Norwich University, the state colleges, Rutland High School and World Learning in Brattleboro.

On Thursday Sodexo officials announced the Vermont First Pledge at Vermont Technical College in Randolph.

The company says that last year it bought $16 million of Vermont-produced foods, a 15 percent increase over the year before.
