BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union leaders are warning that the apparent incursion of Russian troops into eastern Ukraine is pushing the conflict closer to a point of no return. The EU leaders are meeting in Brussels to draw up new economic sanctions against Russia. Moscow heatedly denies any involvement in the fighting between government troops and pro-Russian separatists..

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) —There's a dire warning from the king of Saudi Arabia. King Abdullah says terrorist groups will attack Europe and the U.S. unless they're faced with collective "power and speed" from the international community. Abdullah says he's "certain that after a month they will reach Europe and, after another month, America."

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military says fighter aircraft and unmanned drones have hit Islamic State militants near Iraq's Mosul Dam. U.S. Central Command says the five airstrikes were in support of operations conducted by Iraqi security forces. Officials say the latest airstrikes destroyed an armed vehicle, a fighting position and weapons and damaged an Islamic State building.

DALLAS (AP) —Sen. Ted Cruz is sounding increasingly like he's made up his mind to run for president in 2016. The tea party-backed Texan's rousing speech Saturday in Dallas energized thousands at the summit of Americans for Prosperity, the political arm of the billionaire Koch (kohk) brothers. Cruz said of the GOP — quote— "We're going to win in 2014 and 2016 is going to be even better."

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — It's been three weeks since an unarmed black teenager was fatally shot by a white police officer and protesters are gathered today outside a suburban St. Louis police department to express their anger over Michael Brown's death. Hundreds of people blocked the road in front of the building in Ferguson hours after they gathered at the site of the Aug. 9 shooting.
