GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinian officials say no one has been killed but 30 people have been wounded by Israeli airstrikes today that leveled a seven-floor office building and a 12-story apartment building. The strikes also severely damaged a two-story shopping center in the Gaza Strip. The new escalation is an application of a widening of locations that Israel's military can target. Hamas rockets continue to rain on Israeli territory.

BEIJING (AP) — China's Defense Ministry says the U.S. is the real problem with its "large-scale and highly frequent close-in reconnaissance." Beijing is rejecting U.S. accusations that a Chinese fighter jet's intercept of a U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft off the southern Chinese coast was dangerous. China says its pilot flew professionally.

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Officials say it's time to batten down the Bahamas, where a tropical storm could hit today. The storm is now a tropical depression that formed over the Turks and Caicos Islands but it's expected to strengthen. The storm dumped heavy rains on parts of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

ELMENDORF, Texas (AP) — A misdemeanor arrest warrant for graffiti turned deadly in Texas where a small town police chief was shot and killed. Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau says that Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel trying to serve the warrant when the suspect fired, hitting the chief several times. She says the 24-year-old suspect will face a charge of capital murder of a police officer. Elmendorf is about 25 miles southeast of San Antonio.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — A fourth day of calm in Ferguson Missouri has been a welcome relief for residents and police after violence that followed the shooting death of an unarmed, 18-year-old black man by a white officer. Small peaceful protests continue. The Obama administration will be represented at Michael brown's funeral tomorrow.
