BOSTON (AP) — Two Massachusetts Whole Foods Market stores are recalling 368 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday that the beef was sold in June at the Weymouth and Walnut Street store in Newton.
The agency says three people fell ill between June 13 and June 25 and an investigation determined that all three had eaten beef bought from one of those stores.
Whole Foods said in a statement there have been no positive tests for E. coli.
There is concern some beef may remain in customers' freezers. Whole Foods says the beef should be discarded and customers should seek a refund.
E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
