SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners opted to add a position player, calling up outfielder James Jones from Triple-A Tacoma.

Seattle made the move Monday before opening a three-game series against Toronto. Seattle had an open roster spot after pitcher Erasmo Ramirez was optioned following his start against Chicago on Sunday.

Jones was sent to the minors on Aug. 1, after Seattle acquired outfielder Austin Jackson from Detroit at the trade deadline. Jones had been slumping, seeing his average drop to .258 and was in a 3-for-41 slump when he was sent down.

Jones will be shifted from playing center field to playing either left or right field with Jackson locked in center. But Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon says Jones' playing time will be limited during this call up.
