CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) — The West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes collected near Central Point.
The Mail Tribune newspaper reports (http://is.gd/TeJhLR ) it's the third consecutive year that the virus has been detected in Jackson County. The last known human case in the southwest Oregon county was in 2005.
West Nile is a disease with flu-like symptoms that spreads by mosquitoes. The Oregon Health Department says most infected people display no symptoms.
The presence of West Nile has been reported in five other Oregon counties this summer — Malheur, Baker, Klamath, Umatilla and Union.
