WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama remains adamant that U.S. troops can't bring peace to Iraq. Speaking at the White House today, he said "We can conduct airstrikes, but ultimately there's not going to be an American military solution to this problem. There's going to have to be an Iraqi solution that America and other countries and allies support."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say U.S. military jets have carried out several airstrikes on militant targets near Iraq's Kurdish capital of Irbil, home to a U.S. consulate and about three dozen American military trainers. The military is also undertaking airdrops of food and water to persecuted religious minorities who are stranded on a mountaintop and under siege from the Islamic State group.

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian rebels are surrounded and ready to agree to a cease-fire to prevent a "humanitarian catastrophe." That's according to the insurgents' new leader. Ukraine's president says his country is prepared to accept humanitarian assistance in eastern Ukraine. But he says the aid must come in without military accompaniment and be international in character.

HONOLULU (AP) — Tourists in popular areas of Hawaii such as Oahu and Maui are again trying to enjoy their vacations after a tropical storm swept through without widespread disaster. Still, a large, rural swath of the Big Island is still without electricity after more than 24 hours and is struggling with downed trees blocking roads. Tropical Storm Iselle struck the island early Friday.

UNDATED (AP) — A former paratrooper who lost four limbs in Afghanistan has made a parachute jump in Maine with a first lady afraid of heights. Maine Gov. Paul LePage's wife, Ann, and retired Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, a Vassar, Michigan, native jumped from a plane during today's Freedom Fest in Fort Kent. The fundraising jumps are raising money for a veteran center and museum.
