LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Florida — Every year for the past 26 years, the Sonoma-Marin County Fair in Petaluma, California, holds the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. And on June 21, a 2-year-old, small mutt named Peanut took the prize.

But “crowd favorite” and second-place winner, 14-year-old Quasi Modo, is the happy-go-lucky dog that is stealing hearts.

Quasi Modo was born with missing vertebrae, and what vertebrae she does have are fused together, according to WPTV. She has no neck and long legs that give her the look of a creature imagined for a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi movie.

“I've had grown men jump on top of their trucks to get away from her, I had one kid that did a Hollywood scream," Quasi Modo’s owner and veterinarian Virginia Sayre told WPTV.

But Sayre, who lovingly calls Quasi Modo a “half dog,” said it’s those who aren’t animal lovers who have that reaction. And after watching two seconds of Quasi Modo on video, it’s hard not to see that she’s a sweet soul that exudes pure love for life and people.

“She's a very gentle soul, she loves everybody and everything. There's nothing in the world that she would hurt,” Sayre said.
