CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The state Legislative Commission has finalized the ballot language for two measures Nevada voters will consider in November.
The commission approved language Monday for Question 1, which would create an intermediate court of appeals, and Question 2, which would remove the constitutional protections for the net proceeds of minerals tax paid by mining companies.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://tinyurl.com/oq5lgsq) there was no controversy over the ballot language and arguments for and against passage of the appellate court measure. But lawmakers debated the language on Question 2, which is being opposed by the Nevada mining industry.
Approval of the question would allow the Legislature and governor to increase taxes paid by the industry, which currently are capped at 5 percent.
