BAGHDAD (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Iraq's leaders to quickly set aside divisions to stem a blitz led by Sunni extremists. Insurgents have captured key cities and large swaths of territory this month. Kerry said the group ISIL poses a threat beyond Iraq's borders.

NEW YORK (AP) — The secret memo outlining the justification for the use of drones to kill American terror suspects abroad has been released by court order. The heavily censored 41-page document argues that killing a U.S. citizen is permissible under a 2001 law passed by Congress soon after 9/11. That law empowered the president to use force against organizations that planned and committed the attacks.

NEW YORK (AP) —The New York City Council will vote this week to create municipal identification cards that would allow immigrants living in the country illegally to access key city services they were previously unable to obtain. It's estimated that 500,000 immigrants live illegally in New York. With the card, many will be able to show a form of government identification required to do things such as open a bank account, see a doctor, cash a check or sign a lease.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Officials are considering a long-delayed proposal to build a suicide-prevention system on the Golden Gate Bridge. The plan has faced opposition for years because of the expense, engineering difficulty and changing the look of the iconic bridge.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Some residents of the city of Adak on Alaska's Aleutian Islands have headed to a nearby hill because the threat of a tsunami. A magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck offshore. There are no reports of damage. The affected area is about 1,300 miles southwest of Anchorage.
