GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA — A 29-year-old Las Vegas woman was hospitalized following a weekend houseboat fire at Lake Powell.

A houseboat was fueling up at Wahweap Marina around 1 p.m. Saturday.

"A fire ignited when they turned the boat on," Glen Canyon National Recreation Area spokeswoman Denise Schultz said.

Officials on Saturday called it an engine compartment fire. It was still unclear Monday whether someone attempted to turn the house boat on while it was still being fueled or after the pump was removed, Schultz said.

Bystanders used extinguishers on the dock to knock the fire out. Nicole Rhodes was flown to a hospital in Las Vegas with undisclosed injuries.

Rhodes was reportedly one of several people from a boat management company assigned to clean, pump out and refuel boats at the dock. There were several employees on board the house boat when the fire started.

An online fundraiser has been set up on behalf of Rhodes on the website youcaring.com*.
