SALT LAKE CITY — If there is one thing we know about Evelyn, we know she keeps her promises.

Evelyn lives in a retirement community. She has made friends there, including a shy woman named Joyce who didn’t have a way to get to the grocery store after the shuttle service stopped. Evelyn promised the woman that somehow, she would get her to the store for her groceries.

At 98, Evelyn retook the driver’s license test and passed, making it so she could drive her friend Joyce to the grocer’s.

“You make a promise, it’s important for me to keep that promise, if it’s possible,” she said. “I’m on the earth, I’m here, if I can contribute, I should. Shouldn’t we all, and not just think of ourselves?”
