BAGHDAD (AP) — The shootout over an Iraqi refinery about 155 miles north of Baghdad continues between Sunni extremists and government forces. An Iraqi who drove by the sprawling facility said insurgents have set up checkpoints. The assault is by fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Baghdad has asked Washington for air strikes against ISIL militants.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says President Barack remains "engaged" in efforts to bring stability to Iraq and other areas of the Mideast. Kerry was asked on NBC's Today Show about harsh criticism of the president made by former Vice President Dick Cheney. Kerry said "This is a man who took us directly into Iraq. Please."
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Eastern Afghanistan has been rocked by explosions that destroyed dozens of NATO fuel trucks. They were blown up by Taliban militants at a key border crossing. Officials say the attackers were killed. The assault happened on a key supply route into Pakistan used by the alliance.
WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) — Daylight has brought a clearer picture of the damage caused by a tornado that tore right through the middle of a farm town in central South Dakota last night. Tornado alarms sounded in Wessington Springs, giving residents a chance to flee to the storm shelter beneath the court house. The twister destroyed 10 businesses and destroyed or damaged at least 43 houses. A few people were injured.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Instead of a throaty rumble, a new Harley-Davidson being unveiled has a hum like a jet airplane taking off. That's because it's electric. Several dozen riders will take the sleek, futuristic bikes on a 30-city tour and test drive. Harley says the market for full-size electric bikes is small but no one knows the potential down the road.
