HOUSTON — A new company based in Houston, Texas, helps babies develop mentally and physically by pampering them — at a spa.
Float Baby "combines the benefits of both water therapy and neonatal massage," the company says on its website. After their umbilical cords have fallen off, infants as young as a few weeks old are allowed to come enjoy a relaxing day at the spa. The company boasts that floating allows babies to "achieve major physical and cognitive developmental milestones" — as much as 6 to 12 months ahead of other babies who do not float.
Owner Kristi Ison told Today Moms that she got the idea for the company after reading about a similar business in the United Kingdom. However, she believes Float Baby is the first of its kind in the U.S.
Babies that book a visit to the spa can expect to enjoy hydrotherapy, where they float in a little pool for about 20 minutes while wearing specially made doughnut-shaped flotation devices around their necks to keep their heads above water, according to Today Moms. The babies then receive a neonatal massage that is performed by their parents under Ison's instruction.
A session is $65 and each class is one hour long.
