SALT LAKE CITY — “Law & Order: SVU” is one of the longest-running primetime dramas on TV, centered on a special unit of New York detectives who advocate for rape victims. The season 15 finale airs Wednesday night.
The show's cast recently sat down with KSL’s Brooke Walker and talked about how proud they are of the work they're doing.
For one thing, storylines for the show are often pulled from headlines. Cast members believe that thread of reality gives the show real heart.
"We fictionalize a lot of what happens in real life, and I think it gives a platform to have a conversation about things people don't want to talk about,” said Danny Pino, the actor who plays detective Nick Amaro.
“A lot of people who have experienced (a crime) feel shame," he said. "Our show, what it tries to do, is take the shame away from the survivors and put it on the perpetrator.”
Pino and other cast members also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the SVU series. They recognize how rare it is to play such a personalized character.
In fact, Wednesday’s finale will be centered around a few personal issues for these characters — a plot that will carry viewers through to season 16, come fall.
