PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Health Department has given its approval to a joint venture between a California-based health care company and CharterCare Health Partners, which owns two Rhode Island hospitals.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin had previously approved the affiliation between Prospect Medical Holdings and CharterCare.
CharterCare operates Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence, and related health care facilities. Prospect is a for-profit health care corporation that operates several hospitals and primary care clinics in California and Texas. The health department said Tuesday that the Rhode Island facilities will become for-profit.
The new company, Prospect CharterCARE LLC would be jointly owned and operated by Prospect and CharterCare.
The companies said Tuesday "we look forward to building on the tradition of high-quality, compassionate care" of the Rhode Island institutions.
