INCHEON, South Korea (AP) — A tale of too much cargo is emerging from the South Korean ferry tragedy. Documents show how passengers were put at risk because the doomed ferry Sewol exceeded its cargo limit on 246 trips — nearly every voyage it made in which it reported cargo before it sank. The disaster has exposed enormous safety gaps in South Korea's monitoring of domestic passenger ships.
NEW DELHI (AP) — Officials say at least 10 people are dead following a passenger train derailment in western India on Sunday. Another 57 were injured. The engine and four coaches jumped the tracks 70 miles south of Mumbai. Rescuers used gas cutters to open the derailed coaches to reach those trapped inside. Big cranes were deployed to remove coaches. Railway accidents are common in India.
BEIJING (AP) — State media and an official say 11 people have been killed in the collapse of a stone arch bridge which was being built illegally in a village in southern China. Several people are injured. The official says a village committee had arranged to build a new bridge over a waterless ditch, but failed to get permission. The official says three people responsible for the project are in police custody.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A crash on a key Alaska highway north of Anchorage has killed three motorcyclists and put another in the hospital. Alaska State Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain says a vehicle trying to make a left turn was rear-ended and pushed into the path of the oncoming motorcycles.
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — A man and a teenager have been shot to death in an Arkansas home, along with a worker at a nearby business. Authorities say the suspected gunman, who also wounded four people was later found dead in a car. Police say they haven't pieced together a motive.
