OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ogden is cracking down on unlicensed landlords.

The city is working to track down about 1,100 landlords who didn't respond to a February notice asking them to obtain licenses. It has assigned two employees who were formally police officers to the task.

Management Services Director Mark Johnson says many of the landlords sought could simply have an incorrect address on file, but others could be avoiding detection on purpose.

Johnson says landlords that are found will be asked to pay double the regular fee for each single-family rental property for every year they went unlicensed.
