Marc Giauque reportingThe eventuality of commuter rail carrying thousands of people through Davis County has emergency officials preparing.
Emergencies like derailments are rare. But South Davis Metro Fire Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett said, just in case, they've been learning a lot about the train cars that will soon be traveling between Salt Lake and Ogden.
"There are certainly emergency windows that you can access. But you cannot cut through the train, because there's 480 volts of electricity that travel through various parts of each rail car," Bassett said.
Bassett said there are also challenges with accessing the train at some points along the rail. He says crews in Ogden and Layton already have conducted drills.
