VERNAL — Police are looking into a man's report that he was sexually assaulted by two men after work on March 8.
The man left a downtown business where he works between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., and said he was accosted by two men in an alleyway near the intersection of Main Street and Vernal Avenue, according to Vernal Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell.
The man told investigators he was sexually assaulted by both men while being threatened with a weapon, Campbell said. The pair also began searching the man's car, but ran away when another vehicle pulled into the parking lot, the assistant chief said.
After the assault, the man went to a nearby bar seeking help. Bar employees called police and the man was taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center for examination, Campbell said.
The man described his attackers as white males, one of whom had a teardrop tattoo under his left eye, Campbell said.
Business owners in the area have agreed to provided video from their surveillance systems to police. Little B's, the bar where the man sought help, has also aided detectives in their effort to identify possible suspects, Campbell said.
Anyone who has any information about the incident, or who observed anything suspicious in the area of Vernal Avenue and Main Street on March 8 around the time of the attack is asked to call the Vernal Police Department at 435-789-5835.
