This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
If you're ever heard a performance by either the Crescent Super Band or the VooDoo Orchestra, it's likely an experience you won't forget. This talented group is playing for corporate groups and major events, like the Governor's Gala, all over the state. They've even been recognized as the best youth big band in the world and have won numerous Best of State Awards, even making their debut at Carnegie Hall in May 2013.
The mastermind behind this group is Caleb Chapman. He started into the music business during his senior year of college and was so successful he broke even in just 45 days. Later he created Caleb Chapman Music and now operates 10 of the state's most successful and recognized youth ensembles. A CD released in late 2012 featuring 10 tracks by the Crescent Super Band received significant airplay on pop, country and jazz stations across the country during the 2013 holiday season.
A key principle for these groups is performing professionally. And the gigs they're hired for help pay for their travel and touring costs. In the summertime, Caleb keeps the groups constantly out on the road. They've played everywhere from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco to places all over Europe. Caleb Chapman Music groups played for 10,000 people in Italy once.
Caleb recently received the Governor's Performing Artist Award. He was also the only Utah finalist for the first ever GRAMMY Music Award presented in 2014. A year ago he released his first book about teaching jazz, called The Articulate Jazz Musician, written in partnership with Jeff Coffin, a three-time Grammy winner and member of the Dave Matthews Band. It's currently the nation's top-selling new jazz instructional publication.
For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
