At the national level, the political season for the November election began months ago and will ebb, flow and ultimately crescendo toward the fall. Locally, however, the process formally begins tomorrow night as scores of neighborhood political caucuses are held throughout Utah.

KSL encourages Utahns to get involved in this potent grassroots process!

This is an opportunity to have a direct say in who will be the local leaders of each political party. This is where delegates to party conventions are elected who, in turn, will help select each party's slate of candidates for this year's elections.

KSL especially urges participation by those who consider themselves to be mainstream sympathizers of their respective political parties.

Too often, political activists dominate the caucuses. It seems those who represent narrow special interest groups or espouse particular ideological views are more inclined to attend the meetings, often at the beckoning of organizations with specific agendas. There's nothing wrong with that. It's the way the system is currently organized. Still, it's worrisome that the views of Utah's mainstream moderate majority aren't always heard.

It's why KSL encourages broad participation in tomorrow's caucuses. Get involved! Let your voice be heard! Make this a year of responsible political input, not just nationally, but locally as well.
