KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A travel agency in a resort town in Thailand is one focus of the investigation into the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines plane over the weekend. The owners of the travel agency are being questioned by investigators. They sold one-way tickets to two men who traveled on the flight using stolen passports. As the search continues for any signs of the missing aircraft, an object that was spotted in the ocean turned out to be floating trash, and an oil slick was found to be unconnected to the plane.
FREMONT, Ohio (AP) — Police in northern Ohio say they've arrested the suspect in a weekend shooting at a bar that left three men dead, including an off-duty officer. Fremont police say they took Igmidio Mista into custody this morning shortly after issuing an arrest warrant for him. The warrant charges him with three counts of murder. Relatives of two of the victims told two media outlets that the shooter punched one of the victim's wives before leaving the bar and returning with a gun.
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Thirteen Greek Orthodox nuns who'd been held hostage by Syrian rebels linked to al-Qaida have arrived in Damascus, ending their three-month ordeal. Their release came as part of a rare prisoner exchange with the government. The women said they had been treated well by the rebels.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — The United Methodist Church has dropped its case against a retired minister accused of breaking church law by officiating his son's same-sex marriage. The Rev. Thomas Ogletree says he's grateful his church will no longer prosecute him for presiding over the wedding. The decision is considered a victory for Methodists who have defied church law and organized ministry to all couples. Conservative Methodists have been pressing church leaders to discipline clergy who preside at gay weddings.
NEW YORK (AP) — There are new concerns today about the economic outlook for China, the world's second-largest economy after the United States. China's exports were down by 18 percent last month. That's helped keep stocks lower today on Wall Street.
