SALT LAKE CITY — Alta shrugged off a sluggish first half to blow out Hillcrest 62-42 in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
Hillcrest played a strong opening half, culminating in one of the most dramatic plays of the tournament. Hillcrest guard Tanner Thompson was working the offense to get the final shot of the half, but Alta's defense pushed him out to nearly half-court. With time running out, Thompson let the deep 3-pointer fly and banked it in to cut the lead to 30-25 at half.
In the second half, Alta outscored the Huskies 32-17 to run away with the 20-point victory.
For the Hawks, Zach Rollins led all scorers with 15 points. Trevor Hill scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Landon Albrecht scored 14.
Tanner Thompson and Andrew Reich each scored 11 for Hillcrest.
Alta will play Pleasant Grove on Thursday in the 5A quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
