SALT LAKE CITY — An international name in science is coming to Salt Lake City to speak about the relationship between science and human values.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be presenting a lecture at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah’s campus on March 26 at 7 p.m. His lecture is titled “Science as a Way of Knowing.”

Tickets for the event went on sale Monday and sold out before lunch time.

Tanner Humanities Center representative Josh Elstein said he was surprised how quickly tickets sold for the event.

“Tickets became available at 10 a.m. and sold out by 11:30,” Elstein said. “We knew it was going to be a popular event, but we were surprised at just how quickly tickets sold.”

DeGrasse Tyson has gained notoriety through his work in the field of astrophysics. In 2004 he hosted the acclaimed PBS mini-series "Nova" and subsequently rose to fame through book and media publications.

He will be speaking at the University of Utah as part of the Tanner Humanities Center’s lecture series on human values. Elstein said the lecture will focus on how science, specifically physics and astronomy, relate to universal human values.

“We are excited to bring him here in this capacity,” Elstein said. “He’s sort of a rock star in the science world. His lecture will look at the commonalities between science and the humanities.”

While tickets for admittance into Kingsbury Hall may be sold out, Elstein said those interested in hearing the lecture can watch via live video feed at three other locations on campus.

The Marriott Library, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Lecture Hall and the Film and Media Arts Auditorium will broadcast the lecture live March 26 at 7 p.m. Doors to these venues will open at 6 p.m. the night of the event. These broadcasts are free and open to the public.
