CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A former Reno City Councilwoman is asking the Nevada Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling that disqualified her and other term-out council members from running for mayor. Jessica Sferrazza and current Reno Councilman Dwight Dortch had argued that the mayor is a separate office, so council term limits don't apply.
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Poker players in Delaware and Nevada will soon be allowed to compete against one another online. Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval have signed an Internet gambling agreement that establishes a legal framework allowing residents of the two states to play online poker against each other.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 26-year-old Elko man who held police at bay during a two-hour standoff in July has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison in connection with a shooting at a home near downtown. The Elko Daily Free Press reports Martin Carrillo originally was charged with attempted murder but that charge was dropped as part of a plea-bargain agreement in January.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jubilee!, the campy Las Vegas show with over-the-top costumes, chorus boys and showgirls, is reopening next month with an updated vibe. The longest-running show on the Strip is set to make its return at Bally's Las Vegas hotel-casino on March 17. The show is one of the last of the flamboyant showgirl reviews that were once wildly popular on the Strip.
