SANDY, Utah (AP) -- Dozens of aspiring school board members could find their campaigns over before they begin.
By deadline Monday, 101 people had filed for a seat on the two new boards being created by the split of the Jordan School District. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen says that's the most she's ever seen in a school board election.
But it's unclear how many seats will be up for grabs. A new law says members of the existing Jordan board will get a seat on the new boards, but doesn't specify whether they'll serve out the rest of their current terms or start new ones.
Swensen says her office will decide. If current school board members start new terms, other candidates vying for their seats would be out of luck this year.
